BLADENSBURG, Md. (AP) — Authorities in Prince George’s County say strong winds damaged buildings in Bladensburg.
Friday night’s winds resulted in damage to 15 multi-family dwellings and a single family home as well as structural damage.
Authorities say the damage is the result of a so-called “microburst,” a small intense downdraft that is capable of producing winds of more than 100 miles per hour. Authorities say the microburst happened just after 8 p.m. and that aside from damage to buildings only a few minor injuries were reported.
A temporary shelter for residents whose homes were affected was established at Rodgers Heights Elementary School, but on Saturday afternoon residents were expected to be moved to Bladensburg High School.
